    72 LT1 mystery plug

Have found wiring and a plug (first try at photo?) on right side running back into loom with starter motor wiring and from wiring diagrams it appears it may be TCS solonoid connection but not connected to anything. Wires are two tan and two blue into the plug and an odd rough connection of green from the tan wires to another connector this connector has another green wire returning into the loom? Is this part of loom not used in the 72 LT1?
    thanks john

Wait for some of the 1972 people to come forward, but I believe your guesses are correct. I believe the green wire should go to the TCS temperature switch in the passenger side head, but Bubba has cut the wire. I can't explain what appears to be a splice in there -- maybe someone else can. There is a TCS temperature harness available in the aftermarket that will provide you some of what Bubba cut off, but I still think you will need a foot or so of green wire and a connector. Wait for others to chime in before buying anything though.

      John,
I just came up from the garage after checking out my car. The brown wire connector, with blue and black wires, is the lead for the TCS solenoid that should be located just to the aft of the carb. My 37000 mile 72 has its original TCS system and all is working and plugged in. What I see on your harness is two light brown, one blue and one black. Is that correct? That is the exact configuration of my car. The TCS temperature sending unit uses two green connectors, forming a "V" that comes off of the single green wire. Why yours are spliced together like that I don't know.

As a side note, my car was missing the physical plastic connector that goes to the twin TCS temperature sending unit spades. It had the wire, the female connectors, and a complete wire harness, just not the plastic collar (or whatever you call it). I found the correct one in a local salvage yard. It was an easy find and they were actually several to choose from, iirc. The TCS temperature sending unit was obtained from one of the catalog companies and is readily available.

      Hope this helps.

      Gary
