I am in the process of restoring the frame on my 69 BB coupe. Bairs did the trailing arms, rear end and A Arms. Brian Bair recomends to replace the half shafts and driveshaft with new replacements. One of my half shafts is dented from Bubba replacing the U- Joints. Does anyone have experience with replacement shafts ? How will they judge? Or should I try to find used originals and have them restored? Thanks Brad

I think you'll find the yokes will be a little different on the new driveshafts and half shafts. Whether that will be something that could be discerned in judging is another matter. I kind of doubt it, but there may be some real eagle-eyed judges out there. The advantage of new shafts is that you don't need to restore the surfaces. Protect them in some way (i.e. regular applications of Pre-Lube 6, light coat of satin clear, etc) and they'll look new forever. The tubes of used shafts are very hard to restore to their exact, original appearance.
On the other hand, good used pieces are not that hard to find. If you go that route, you'll want pieces that are undamaged and suffer from no pitting corrosion. You probably won't find any that don't suffer from some surface rust, though.
Also, you'll want the 2-1/2" half shafts and not the 75+ style 3" units (which are functional for your application). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
