63 Seat Rear Brackets & Plates, when installed on the line

Question - Are the seat rear brackets and plates on the floor painted in black or red primer? My fiberglass floor shows no evidence of paint UNDER the rear bracket plates, elsewhere the floor is heavy red primer. Was this floor originally blacked out and and a prior owner just cleaned out the black? Does suggest that the plates were installed (with the brackets?) prior to the red primer and blackout(?) of the 63 floor?

I am so intrigued with the new 63/64 TIM&JG carpet photos that I am going to set mine up the original way. I have already lifted the crushed carpet with an ice cube set in each spot and left to dry. It really works. I can also patch the bolt holes in the carpet easily.

Also I do feel the new 63/64 TIM&JG is wrong stating that these rear brackets were riveted to the floor. Mine are bolted.

    Regards and thanks Gerry Lehmann

    Gerald,

Don't have all the info in front of me at the moment, but the upper (interior) seat plates on my Dec '62 convt. were definitely painted the interior color (red).

The rivets heads holding the underbody seat mount plates were also primed an painted - therefore installed before painting.

    Hope this helps.

I would think that the brackets for the rear of the seats were installed before the primer and interior color paint, esp. if you found NO primer under them. The IN board mounting plates on the bottom of the car for the rear of the seats were riveted to the body, the OUT board plates were NOT, they were held in by the bolts used to mount the seat anchors. These under the car (4) plates were not painted, but the front of the seat (2) plates were painted low gloss black. Phil 8063

No paint on either as I recall, that's why they rusted so quickly.
