    1962 Color code ??

I removed the pass seat and scraped away some paint. Beige and HT is visible. Does this mean almond beige or fawn beige? Undisturbed paint appears to be almond or off white. See attache photo. Thanks for any responses, Gary

    Gary--
Couldn't find your picture attached. Almond beige is simply an off-white, while fawn is metallic. I seem to recall that it would say "fawn" when metallic (fawn beige) but only "beige" when almond. I stand willing to be corrected, because I don't have any photos of that specific distinction.

      Gary,
We have a local chapter memember with an Almond Beige 62. The crayon writing behind the seat is beige. I believe I have a photo of it and will post tonite if I find it. Beautiful color.

here is an almond beige 63....also known as sudan beige in the paint book.
A local guy had a pristine almond beige 62 way back when and I always admired that color.

              Gary,
Please use this link to access the Auto Color Chip Library for the correct 1962 "Corvette only" chips for Fawn beige (920) and Almond beige (938).

You can move the cursor over each chip for closer look.
              Hope this helps. . .

                Gary,
Mike Ernst is correct. "Beige" designates Almond Beige and "Fawn" Fawn Beige. Here's (I hope) a photo of the crayon marking behind the passenger seat of my 62'.
Nice to hear of another Almond car.

This thumbnail shows the non-metallic Almond beige "creamy" shade far better than the color chips do. Good job, Eugene.

Here is a pic from behind the pass seat on my '62 920 fawn. It is hard to see in the photo, but in green crayon it says FAWN with HT just below. Since my car was bought new in Canada, I also have the GM Canada document to corroborate the crayon marking info.

I agree with Rev. Mike, but I might give Almond Beige it a bit more color than an "off-white".

Almond Beige = Beige (written in green crayon on fiberglass behind passenger seat). 820 cars out of a 14,531 production were painted Almond Beige.
Fawn Beige = Fawn (written in green crayon on fiberglass behind passenger seat). 1,851 cars out of a 14,531 production were painted Fawn Beige.

In my opinion the Almond Beige color displayed on a 1962 is very attractive, classy, and eye-catching. Maybe because it is unusual and seldom seen, and that I also subscribe to my likes that all Corvettes do not have to be RED.

HT (written in green crayon on fiberglass behind passenger seat) indicates that the car came from St. Louis with the auxiliary Hardtop option 419, either as a hardtop only car or in conjunction with the ragtop. Out of a total production of 14,531 there were 8,074 Corvettes in 1962 that came with this option. The Hardtop would be painted the same as the body color for the car.
