Hello to all, I am new to the NCRS and have found a 71 that has literally been sitting for at least 20 years. I am sure there are threads that cover this situation and would like to access the same...I could use some suggestions on what to list as search criteria. Thanks!

Re: New member, barn find.
Welcome to NCRS! The archives have been down for maintaince for a couple of days but I think they are back up. To reach them, you just select the archive listings from the main home page. The search field is found on the upper right side of page. Click the box and type in any subject matter you want to search for. Topical examples for a barn find might include:
engine start,
rodent damage
pigeon poop on paint
etc...
If you don't find what you need, you can always just post a question on the discussion board. Lot of folks can help if you throw a specific question on the table.
good luck,

A good start is pictures lots of pictures. Then post them here everything outside, inside, engine, the pad, trim tag. Go to the NCRS store and buy the Judging guides and other information available for your model. Don't clean or change anything till you ask here first. In some cases if it is truly an untouched original car you might want to Bow Tie the car and it could even be trailered to a judging event. Go over this site it will answer your question about the different judging events and category's.
The members love this kind of find, so there are no dumb questions keep us posted.

Re: New member, barn find.
You've already done a very smart thing- joining NCRS first and choosing a car second. Most of us did it the other way around.
Try searching with the specific word 'inspection'. A very good practice is to have someone experienced with the particular year of car accompany you while the car is gone over in fine detail. Pay them if need be. Take lots of notes, take lots of pictures and post question here if you have doubt.
Don't rush into a purchase- what appear to be half price bargains are rarely bargains at any price.- Top

Re: New member, barn find.
i am also restoring a 70 barn car. mine had been there for 15 years sitting in the dirt. part of the barn colapses damaging the body of the car. lots of rust. first thing to do is take pictures of everything before you take it apart. the second thing i did is pull the body off the car and take more pictures. then i pulled everything off the frame and took more pictures of the parts. cant have to many pictures. the frame was the first thing i restored. then one part at the time we restored suspention parts and put them back on the frame. it takes time but its all fun. here is what i have done in about 8 months. feel free to email me and i can tell you who did what on the car. a couple of venders were involved.Attached Files- Top

Chris & Charma,
Welcome! Some of us LOVE 71s. You've gotten some good advice so far. It would be a wise thing to have someone knowledgeable about original 71's look at the car with you to help you see what you have and then give you some ideas how to proceed.

Mike,
When I looked at your 'as found' picture I really thought 'farm tractor' for a minute. The second picture looks like some wonderful restoration work.

Re: New member, barn find.
Welcome to the "Found a 71 in a barn" club. I rescued this 71 in 2006 after 20 years. This photo was taken in front of the barn it sat in for all of those years. Feel free to PM me if you need any barn rescue advise !!

Nice work ! It's wonderful to see the art of Corvette restoration as practiced by the hobbyist part by part.
Best wishes, for continued enjoyment with your project.
