    I give up..Amazing

Why on earth would some one pay $230 for a 63-64 jack hold down spring? I was watching one on ebay that I thought might sell for $30-$40 but just saw where the auction ended at that amazing price. If that's the case how come my ordinary 64 wouldn't bring $250-$300K. This hobby is getting out of hand. Wow I'm stunned.

    Cheers,
    Craig

It was a no reserve auction, so it was the buyers that "set the price".

All 1963-68 Corvettes used the same jack hold-down spring----GM #3785772. However, I believe the configuration of the "hook" clip attached to one end changed in 1965. The 63-64 version of the spring had a "single loop" clip whereas the 65-68 used a "double loop" clip. Otherwise, I think the spring assemblies were the same.

For 1969 the spring changed to GM #3963108. I think the difference was a slightly longer spring to accommodate the "stouter" jack used from 1969 through 1979. The "double loop" hook remained the same. In July, 1973 the 3963108 replaced the 3785772 for SERVICE.

The 63-64 style spring with the hook clip with single loop is reproduced. How much different could a simple part like this be from the original?

You are right Joe, it is the buyer who sets the price. But how could anyone justify $230 for a jack hold down spring and hook? You can buy a repo for under $10 which for the most part is identical. Is this hobby become that insane? Like I said before if I were to put a price of $250K on my 64 everyone would call me nuts but paying $230 for a hold down spring is okay as long as that's what someopne is willing to pay. Wow is all I can say.

      Cheers,
      Craig

        Craig,
I hear you.But if I get down to one last piece that I need to finish off my car I would spend stronger money then I had planned,Having said that I am going out to the garage to check out my jack springs

A friend of mine has a theory that I have found to be true:

"You don't have to be smart to overpay, and very often
you will find that the opposite of smart is "in play".

            Hey Craig,
            Weather is turning nice...

So, I agree with you, so I have decided to do a complete nuts and bolts tear down and sell all my parts on eBay. I figure it should bring in maybe $1.2 - $1.8 million. KIDDING

I've seen people pay $100+ for a single bolt, and many other examples of crazy prices. There is/was some crazy selling a vin tag for $3500. Nothing surprises me any more.

            Talk with you soon,
            David

I wont to first say I'm sorry for you C2 guys. I've rarely seen parts for C1 sell at the prices that C2's get. Many model C2's sell for much more then a 53 brings. For a long time I've joked about C2 people being rich because of the price they bring and the cost of parts.
At times I feel like trailer trash owning a 55 Corvette compared to some C2 owners attitude when I drive mine. It seems only the rich people can afford a C2 now days .
Making a C1 a middle class guys Corvette.

I got $1981.38 for my 1962 NOS Tire Air in December and thought the buyer got a great deal. http://tinyurl.com/2kcmtq

....my sarcastic humor about crazy prices turned out to be surprisingly noticed with over 1300 hits in just a few days. I had to end the auction early because I accidentaly broke it with a hammer.

Now that there is funny....I don't care who you are.

Rich, how you liking Sebastian? I was thinking about retiring in that area. Send me a PM about it. Thanks. David

Roy, if it wasn't for me buying my 64 (the trailer trash of the C2's) about 28 years ago, I wouldn't be able to get into one right now. That's why I'm thinking about piecing her out for the 'REAL' money.

BTW-Has anyone ever taken this approach?

There is a guy on e-bay doing just that with C1's selling C1's piece by piece tarring C1's apart , may be that's how to make bigger $$$ and the future of many Corvettes

                      Roy....Great point.

Supply and Demand. Fewer C1's & C2's makes those that still have them much more valuable.
