Starter for a 1973 LS-4 four speed

I know the starter part number is supposed to be 1108400. What is the difference between that starter and #1108418? I believe that part number was used on 427's. Does anyone have a 1108400 date coded the last couple of months of 1972 or first two months of 1973? Thank you for your help.

The 1108418 and 1108400, AS ORIGINALLY CONFIGURED, are functionally equivalent. I've never actually figured out why the 2 different starter part numbers existed, virtually simultaneously. There must have been some difference between them but I'll be darned if I can figure out what it is.

I have the same car and had the same question, you loose a couple of points for the wrong number. Try John Pirkle, he is an NCRS member and restores alternators and starters to NCRS condition. He has lots of alternators and starters and if he has the core you are looking for, he will rebuild it and sell it to you.
