    C-3 P/s Pulley Question

    Hey All-

Well here we go. My first post since the change over. I'm in the process of rebuilding / restoring my p/s pump from my 1974 L-48 with A.C. The 1973-74 J.G. (page 70) is calling out a "cast / open spokes" single groove pulley. The one I just removed from my pump is a single groove "stamped sheet stock" pulley with part # "3770509 CE GM" stamped into the front of it. This # is correct for my configuration as per my 1953 thru 1982 G.M.P.D. catalog but not the J.G. Does this mean that this pulley was replaced? It's hard to believe that a pulley would go bad. How do I tell then, that the p/s pump is original?

I need to learn to post pictures next.

    THANKS....Marty

The GM #3770509 stamped steel "pancake" pulley is the correct one for your application. It's the one originally used at St. Louis and it's still the one that should be on there. Period.

      JOE-

Any idea if I'll I be getting a points deduction for this pulley since it does not met the criteria spelled out in the 1973-74 J.G.?

I'm believing then that the pump is original. Any markings or numbers I should be looking for?

      THANKS....Marty

The cast pulley was used on cars without air conditioning. The stamped pulley was used on cars with air conditioning. As Joe said you have the correct pulley.

          LYLE-

Thank-you for the clearification. The J.G. does not spell this out. And I quote from page 70: "L48 power steering steering pulleys are cast with open spokes. L82's power steering pulleys are stamped sheet rock." End quote. It goes on to identify the LS4's pulley, but NO where in that paragraph does it say anything about with or without A/C. I can believe that there will be no points deduction then?

          THANKS....Marty

I see no reason for a deduction.
