    Midyear jacks

Are the current "correct" repo jacks passing judging?

      Re: Midyear jacks

There are early and late versions of reproduction jacks with the early units having an aluminum tube surrounding the lead screw to thwart actual useage. Later versions simply have a stick-on label warning against useage. It's believed these measures were taken to safeguard the mfgr against deviation(s) from current Federal safety standards.

Once these safeguards are removed, the difference between reproduction jacks and factory originals is gossamer meaning a savvy judge might deduct a point or so on originality. Compare that to the condition deduction(s) you'd take on an aged original jack with rust/pit, and the repro jacks are a bargain...
