I don't remember Chevrolet doing alot of advertising for Corvette over the years. This link is really enjoyable if you haven't seen it before.

Re: Chevrolet Corvette advertising 1965
interesting. I wonder if this ad connection is what caused "Hoss" to buy the yellow 65 Chevelle Malibu Z-16 I've heard so much about? Perhaps it was simply compensation from Chevrolet.

Re: Chevrolet Corvette advertising 1965
I remember when these run. Never missed Bonanza on Saturday Night. or was it Sunday Night? I remmber the 63 coupe being driven in an open field or range by Little Joe. The rest of the lineup followed driven by the rest of the cast. What a strange looking car that was. I was either 13 or 14. Sure took me a long time to get my own.- Top

Re: Chevrolet Corvette advertising 1965
Thanks for the memories. .. . Great video clip. Seems funny how well one remembers all the actors, how they looked back in the day, and the TV character roles they played. All the featured cars are well remembered, too.
The video clip is timeless while the featured cars are ageless. .. Except for one of the actors, all are gone now. Some, long gone. .. The 1965 Impala still shows up on the street fairly regularly, from time to time.
The old cliche about 'a man's word is his bond' was still practiced by some area car dealerships in those days. One local dealership, Raines Chevrolet, would let customers take a car they might be interested in purchasing, home for several days. People were treated as good folks from the community. .. Back then dealers relied on repeat customers. Sales people stayed with a dealership as a career.
Needless to say it's all different now. I went with my youngest daughter a few days ago in her quest to purchase a new car. After all the back and forth go-rounds - three dealerships later, it was a done deal.- Top

Re: Chevrolet Corvette advertising 1965
Another show from that era that was almost exclusively sponsored by Chevrolet and showcased the various models was "My Three Sons" starring Fred McMurray.
Speaking of early Corvettes on TV etc, the Elvis Presley movie "Clambake" c.1967 I think, features him driving what I presume to be a slightly modified (hood scoop added) deep red metallic Stingray racer. I recently bought a 1/43rd model of same while on a trip to Luxembourg. Can anyone tell me, was that the original colour of the Stingray that Bill Mitchell had built? All of the previous photos I can recall seeing were black and white.
Thanks,

Re: Chevrolet Corvette advertising 1965
Mitchell's 1959 Stingray racer was metallic red and not Riverside Red as many had thought. Larry Shinoda commented on this at Cypress Gardens in the early 1990's when Scale Dreams introduced their 1/25th scale models of the legendary Corvette.- Top
