    62 soft top fit question

I've never run across this before---I looked at a 62 recently that, when you wanted to put the top up or down, the fabric would hit the pin on the open deck lid. (The pin that latches the deck lid when down). How do you adjust away from that? Top adjustment? (It seems to fit fine)--There's really no adjustment on the pin itself except a little but of up/down for length of the pin--any ideas?
    Thanks!

It could be that the hinge springs are weak and don't hold the lid all the way up

Roy--thanks for the thought, but it raised all the way to the limit. It has to be something else.

When first adjusting the soft top assy (before) installing the material is when that problem is taken care of, if not then you have a problem

Mike, any chance the mounting arms are missing some shims to make minor adjustments to angle of deck lid?

On my 59, in January after 22 years of top flipping, my lid was not fully back and the rear window got 2 distiinct scratches from the outer edges of the stainless trim on the lid near the pin. One scratch is deeper than the other because the trim on one side protrudes a little further than the other.

Is it possible that's what is hitting it, not the pin itself?

I agree with Roy. The front bar of my 62 hit the latch pin when lowered. No amount of adjusting would solve the problem without creating other fit problems with the top. When I installed a new top I adjusted the top frame to make sure the front bar cleared the latch and that the top had a consistent gap with the windows. Now the front bar clears the pin when lowering the top. I don't know the geometry invloved but I know the problem can be solved with a new top.

That's what I'm talking about! people that have the top material put on the frame out of the Corvette have the most problems. I just cant see how any one can do that and have it fit correct.

Roy, do you mean it's better to put a new soft top on the frame while it's still mounted in the car, as opposed to taking the soft top frame out of the car and mounting the soft top material? I assume so, but I just wanna make sure...that's a project that lies ahead in my near future!

How can the soft top be adjusted other wise

The single most important part of any new soft top installation is to fit and adjust the top frame and weatherstrips to the windshield, side glass, and deck lid BEFORE installing the new top skin.
