    Rochester Fuel Injection

What is the correct length for the drive cable and the drive cable housing for a 4360 unit driven with a 889 distributor?
How many different lengths of housings and cables were used from 1957 thru 1965?
    Thanks in advance, Bruce B.

    Bruce,

My 63 unit carries a 6 1/4" drive cable. I think this cable comes in two lengths. Do you have one in your car? If so, just take it out and measure tip to tip.

      Re: Rochester Fuel Injection

Bruce, I think there are actually three cable lengths. Short one is 1585719 6-21/64" long. Wobble pump 6409370 6-15/32" long. Long one is 6409698 6-27/32" long. The difference between short and long is roughly 5/8" difference. The long cable should fit all applications. I think the there is only one housing but I'm not sure of that. I have collected this info from various sources including here, I think it is accurate. Hopefully John D. will let us know. Good luck, Don H.

        Jerry,
I sold my 57 FI car so I don't have any drive cables to measure and I believe the early Rochester units used a different cable then the 63 and up units.

Don, There are THREE drive cable housings. What muddles up the water is the early '63 wobble pump. Few of us have that pump and if they do they are living on borrowed time as the pump was recalled because it caused engines to blow. I can expand on this another time.

"The long cable should fit all applications". Well most of the time it should.
There is a 4th drive cable and housing FI fans. It's for the '57-'58 Pontiac. Very short stubby assembly.

Bruce. Just supply your shortest cable. As Don said difference between long and short is about 5/8".
Yesterday a guy called with this problem. He had a long drive cable housing and a short cable. And the FI was just restored by someone. Not saying to protect the innocent. hahaha
The short cable will not work in the long housing. duh I thought but was very polite. The customer also never heard of NCRS.

Now to Preach (not sale parts. What irks me the last 50 plus years is this. FI owers that do not carry an extra cable. Then they break down and need a tow truck. Then they call and want a cable Next Day Air to them and the cost between the cable and the shipping is at least $100.00

Grease on the cable. I tell people this. Any brand of disc brake wheel bearing grease. Or better grease. AS much as possibler on the cable. John

Ah, the beauty of the forum is to share common problems and questions that periodically pop up. It is wonderful you got your answer 9 years ago and so others who may have had related questions since that time can benefit, especially from data that may not have been available 9 years ago. Good to use a search engine to find answers before posting a new thread. More lurkers than posters.
