BTW, yes, I know the expansion tank cap is not even close to an RC-26.

Anyone judged or evaluated an RC-26 cap from Paragon?? I'm about to order one.

I have watched Dewitts stamp the tanks at their booth at Corvettes @ Carlisle and they actually do stamp them not engrave them. They have a buck set up to hold the tank and brace the inside then they hand stamp the outside. The entire process takes about 3 minutes.

Dick, how did you remove the old date?

Very carefully sanding the date out. Would buff the sand marks out and then wash the tank with aluminum wheel cleaner, not the kind that is safe for polished wheels. Lot of work, but two thirds of the fun was doing something like this.

Given that's how it's done, one would think that a simple modification of their stamp tools and/or gang would allow them to improve the "XX X" spacing.

PS: I'm surprised that Mr. DeWitt hasn't added to this thread, since I know he posts occasionally. Maybe be can speak to how much inter-letter spacing variability there was on original GM-stamped tanks.
