Re: Parts For Sale Section..aah, and therein lies the problem...

If the Driveline would get to all the NCRS members within, say, even a WEEK of each other, it would be great. I've called on more parts and more cars out of that thing only to find out they were sold a couple of weeks earlier by some guy who saw the ad in the same Driveline I read the day I called! Kinda defeats the whole purpose, doesn't it? Still, I like reading it more than being online....hey, why not save paper and just print the "Driveline" online (I mean, even the old folks got computers nowadays) and send the thing to all the NCRS dues-paying members at the same time? Have a set day of each quarter that we can all expect to get the Driveline in our e-mail boxes.....Save a tree! LOL!!

        Re: Parts For Sale Section

Again, Someone must be reading and buying from the Driveline if it's all gone when you get it. This is a supply issue. Not enough parts for everyone. When it goes online you chances are you will also be late to the game. Threads will read SOLD! SOLD! SOLD!..... This is a symptom of the problem not the problem. We need to find more sources for hard to find parts. Many of us hoard parts.... Lets get those folks to sell them then the problem will be fixed whether its in the Driveline or online.... How many 78 Dash clusters do I need? I guess three, cause that's how many I have..... (only have 1 78 and it has a dash cluster!) You never know though may buy another one someday. That's the problem not the Driveline.

Yes, like to see it. Much like the Team Chevelle, Camaro and Nova sites offer. Very handy

And THAT'S the problem. If you and I are looking for the same part and I get my Driveline 2 weeks before you, who has the advantage. At least if we had a for sale section, we would both have an equal chance.

                Re: Parts For Sale Section

Jim, If you succesfully bought the same part online then that only transfers the problem to the other guy who was looking for the part. If more then 2 people want/need the same part and there is only one part someone will miss out. Then the unlucky person will have a gripe about whatever technology we use to sell it. (this is why Ebay is so succesful)

Post a "wanted" ad in the driveline see if you get any resposes for the parts you need. The rest of us dig up all our uneeded NOS/used parts and list them in the Driveline. Include your email address then you can email pictures of your parts.

If that doesn't work start your own website that specializes in Corvette parts and encourage everyone to use it.

For the record I would use an online forsale section, but I am weary about trying to get NCRS to create one since the Driveline is the proverbial "third rail"....

                  "Start a for sale Section"
Is anyone taking into account the complexity of doing this?
Security, fraud, payments, problems, liability(lets not forget the lawyers), mistakes, non-delivery, complaints, misrepresentation so on, and so on.
Who will take the responsibility to design, maintain and improve the site?
                  It's not an easy task.

                    Re: Parts For Sale Section

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take - take the shot.

I think every aspect of anyones search for Vette parts would be improved if we offered a for sale option from this group. At this time the forum is the BEST resource to find history, confirm parts used and start the process to search for parts. A for sale option is the next logical step. The need is growing and this need is not going to go away.

With the introduction of this new NCRS site, I would think a for sale option would now have to be a prime, realtively easy, objective to further enhnace NCRS as THE organization to join if you want to find THE answers to all your questons and restore your Vette as it was when it was new with THE best parts you could find.

And this would help those of us with Compulsive VPD - (Vette Parts Disease).

                      Re: Parts For Sale Section

Are there two things being confused as one here? One being the posting of the "DRIVELINE" on the Internet and the other being allowed to post an ad on the Discussion Board or a board like it on the NCRS site.

I am not for the demise of the "DRIVELINE" or in a hurry to see it put on the NCRS site rather than printed and mailed. What I would really like is for it to be permissible to post and read ads on this site. NCRS Chapter sites have made such provisions therefore others have realized it is useful. Problem with that is it is more geared to Chapter area members. How time consuming would it be to peruse those sites daily.
Uniform distribution of the "DRIVELINE" is a problem beyond the control of NCRS. The solution lies with the Postal system and I doubt there is a feasible solution there.

For those like Eric Jackson for which the "DRIVELINE" meets their needs there is no need for further discussion as they don’t have a problem to solve. For the many that find the "DRIVELINE" untimely or dysfunctional, being allowed to post here would solve that problem for many. Lack of supply is a ‘red herring", not really the issue. I’d just like to level the playing field a little bit.

hold on, never said the Driveline met my needs only said it is a symptom of the problem, which is lack of parts. I would support the online sale, but that would only shift the problem to another area (those without PCs). Last part I bought from the Driveline is about 8 years ago last part I bought online yesterday... For the record I want online, but I am taking into consideration all those who don't have PCs. Eric

Why would we (NCRS) have these issues with ads on-line and not with the regular print Driveline? What is the difference?

I don't even bother to read the for sale section of the driveline , I think I get mine a month after any one els , E-Bay is the game to play even tho I miss most by being out bided.
I just look to see who is reproing what and the event dates. Then throw it out

                                Re: Parts For Sale Section

I wholeheartedley agree. I have been lurking this (these theads) thread. I work in the printing industry and cannot understand what the problem is.
I am, daily, making files that are press ready and Internet ready.

I imagine that the Driveline is "Digital" i.e. computer generated before it goes to press. It is not that big of a leap to make the files "Internet Ready". Is this organization really that afraid to leap forward to make everything available to ALL Membership in a timely fashion?

I get my Driveline well before most on this site, so that is not the issue with me. I feel tha ALL deserve a fair shot in any parts or vehicles that are advertised in OUR Driveline.

                                Hope I don't get banned!
