Got My New 63-64 JG Happy But SAD

Happy that the format looks great with photos and diagrams. I opened it up to sample some changes I had hoped would be there. Only to find them still incorrect, like gas pedal screw finsh. Then I found in error, fire wall insulation, blue owners guide and to what was correct in number JG #4 to find it changed to now incorrect, ex page 122 Power Brake Booster it tells of two P/B boosters, the numbers stamped on the booster is now 2025 or 2110 for 63 year and 4310 or 4702 for 64, and they are stamped TWICE. There is ONLY one booster for 63 and one for 64. The 63 is stamped ONCE with the #2574 and the 64 is once #4311. Iam not going to blow smoke up, because I would HOPE everyone knows how much WORK goes into these JM. SAD because its seems that they are not validating the input, and some input that they do get that comes with indisputable back up, is ignored. Phil 8063

I'm sure you've send this info to the '63/'64 team leader aswell to consider in some form of revision?

      Phil,

      You are correct.

The correct tab number for the 63 brake booster is 2574.

The correct tab number for the 64 brake booster is 4311.

Both of these numbers come from GM/Delco documentation and many original examples observed over the years.

        Hi Rob,

I'll try to scan and send documentation on the correct brake booster tab numbers to the TL later today.

Don't feel to sad each year has some problems , for 55 the JM states the temp sender end had AC stamped in it (NOT) but a good judge would know the mistake and disregard it . I don't know how this happens , yet known correct parts are not in the JM. Just have to hope the next issue is corrected.

Re: Got My New 63-64 JG Happy But SAD

I know a lot of work goes into these judging manual revisions, especially these newest versions, but there will always be small "issues" with each new version, some as simple as misspellings, transpositions, and minor omissions and errors.

I don't know how these manuals are printed - I assume they're printed in batches, as needed, until the next major revision a few years down the road. If that's the case, why wait until an entirely new revision to correct small issues that are brought to the attention of the team leaders, and with which they agree?

Why not correct them in the next batch of the current edition? E.g., when the Fifth edition (5.0) gets a minor revision, it becomes 5.1, then 5.2, etc., until a full-blown project is undertaken to produce a Sixth edition. This would follow the same methodology that software developers utilize. Furthermore, the changes made to the Fifth edition, i.e., in versions 5.1, 5.2, etc., should be published in a folder on the National website - that way, all holders of the Fifth edition are guaranteed to have all current revisions to their edition, whether their printed copy is the original 5.0 or later 5.1, 5.2, etc. This would not affect manual sales, as members would still need to buy a Sixth edition sometime down the road, but would allow the best available version of the existing edition to be in circulation amongst the membership. This would make it a "living" document that continues to improve with the best available information, through continual peer review, and would aid and enhance the quality of judging at all levels.

Good idea!!! I especially like the part of making the revision-pages electronically available to the members.

The current practice is to add yellow/colored addendum sheets to current JM's after the updates are approved. Gary....

That's a great idea and seems like no more work to track the changes, just mabe increased cost from the printer to editing and set up charges which as an avid user of the JM, I for one would be willing to pay.
