69 L36 fuel filter bracket mounting problems

Where is the fuel filter bracket supposed to mount to the engine?

I have the lines from the fuel pump, to the filter, to the carb all hooked up but can't for the life of me figure out how the bracket is supposed to support the filter.

I've looked at some pics of other L36 cars and none of them have this bracket installed. Is this bracket just for small blocks?

I don't think that any bracket was actually used to support the fuel filter for 1969 L-36. The bracket was supposed to have been used for 1968, but I really wonder if any were originally installed. The bracket was designed for use with small block applications and it was designed for attachment to the AIR pump bracket. However, the configuration of the big block AIR pump bracket is much different and I cannot see how the bracket could ever have been used with it. I cannot find that any big block-only filter bracket was ever released.

You could try installing the bracket so that it is retained by the AIR pump-to-bracket lower through-bolt. However, I think what you'll find is that you'll end up with a decidedly distorted, "non-factory-looking" installation.

      Thanks Joe.

My impression now too is that the L36 never received this bracket. I've been looking back in all my books and pics and can't find any in use. Even that 68 5 start Bowtie car that I mentioned in my other post doesn't have this bracket.

I just assumed that it would have one because ALL the vendors list it as being for 300, 350 and 390hp engines and I couldn't see them all getting it wrong but maybe they did.

I'll try again to mount it like you said but I tried various ways last night and really couldn't come up with anything that even looked close....

I had the same issue and question. I couldn't make it fit "right" either. When I tried it, it came out looking odd, no matter what I did. Mine is now in the "maybe someday" parts bin. Thanks and regards...Joe

Well this is the closest attachment point that I could find and the only way to "make it work" would be to bend the tab on the bracket...

Is there any 68-69 mechanical judges that care to comment on what they expect to see for a bracket?
