Quick question on Quanta fan belts for a 69 L36...

I did a trial fit on my A.I.R pump and alt belts and they are just barely tight enough at the max tension adjustment. I also noticed that they are both the same size even though they have different part numbers.

Is this typicaly as good as they fit and if this is as good as they are where could I find better fitting repop belts? An inch shorter and they would be about perfect...right in the middle of the adjustments.

For what it's worth the water pump, crank and water pump, crank, PS belts fit perfect.

I have used the Quanta belts on my 69 L46 with AC and the look good. If you drive conservatively they are ok. However, if you tend to run up the RPMs occasionally they may not take the stress. I found this out the hard way by tearing up a set. I would only use them for judging. If you use the replacements and tear them up it's cheaper and easier too replace them rather than the repops.

I've had Quanta's belts on my 67 327/300 for 5 years and 10,000 miles without any issues.

i have a NOS 57 fan belt( 2x4 and FI) as well as the quanta repo. they are essentially identical in circumfirence and width. the depth of the part # stampings differs in that the NOS is a tad deeper. mike

Thanks guys. I've heard that they are more for show than go so I guess that trade off is okay.

So do they generally fit well?

I needed four for my 69 L36, two of them fit perfect but the one for the A.I.R pump and the one for the alternator seem too long. Both units are adjusted to their max tension setting and the belts are just barely tight enough. I don't know if this is a typical adjustment setting for these two units or if the belts are in fact too long. I find it odd that BOTH of these belts would be too long by accident so maybe that it just the way they are supposed to be.

Any thoughts?

I've had them on my L46 w/ac for 3 years w/o any problems. I don't drive it much, but I haven't had any problems.

Greg,

Before you condemn the belts, you should measure them to make sure they are the correct length for your application. Only then can you determine what is ithe problem is. It could be the brackets or pulleys that may be wrong. I've used the Quanta belts and they fit correctly.

Thanks George. So where could I find the belt dimensions?

I think my alternator pulley is correct but not 100% certain. The bracket for it is original though.

I know my water pump pully is correct and the bracket and pulley for the A.I.R pump is from Bill Hodel. The pulley has the correct P/N on it as per the 68-69 TIM&JG so I'd have to say that at least those two items are correct.

You can look up the aftermarket parts applications on some of the automotive parts web sites (I like NAPA) and they generally give you the belts length dimensions. I also recall the Quanta web gives you the dimesions as well.

I don't know if the belts are correct but I have had a deduction taken if the adjustment is all the way to the end. I have blown them off at high RPM also. The belts have so few points I use one NOS and three old GM belts with the wrong numbers and lose very little in the big picture.

Haven't had much luck with them, they seem to stretch? Only use them to show , when we drive the car I put my Gates belts back on.

I got them from Long Island Corvette, but they a Quanta Belts, this is my 3ed set. If you just drive you car they are ok but if you RUN your vette they will stretch and twist. So my 3ed set is only for show, when driving season comes I change my alt. belt.

Ah Ha just as I thought. I bet they are the wrong belts for your car. Contact Quanta and see if they quote the same belt #.
