Can anyone tell me where I can find information regarding the idenification numbers found on a 1969 427/435 4055 carburetor? I know the GM part #,List Identification, and date. How do I determine the authenticity of the attached parts (ie metering block, float bowl, accelerator pump style/configuration, base plate, butterfly plates, etc.) It's an 8O4 build date on my December 68 427/435 1969 Corvette.

How do I determine the authenticity of the attached parts (ie metering block, float bowl, accelerator pump style/configuration, base plate, butterfly plates, etc.) It's an 8O4 build date on my December 68 427/435 1969 Corvette.. Just happen to have a complete oval port set-up (795 intake, carbs, air cleaner, etc.) which I believe to be original. The center 4055-1 carb is dated 981, (ends both 951's), from a late '69 car.
The metering block is 5062; butterflies have "117" stamped on manifold side; baseplate has "12R_3632B" cast plus a funny script near RH rear bolt hole. accel. pump is square type with clutch screws and "34R-2178" cast (can't vouch for this being correct). Other than the patent #s, I don't see much on the fuel bowl.
I can take pics of all this stuff, if desired.- Top

Re: 69 4055 Carb Numbers
Thanks for the info. I have two carbs that are in pieces that I took apart years ago. Now I don't remember which parts go to which carb. They are both 4055's. One is a 8O4, and the other is an O217. The first one matches my two outboard carbs with the same date. The two metering blocks both have 5062 on them. One also has 4055 1 in addition below and to the right in the same size stamping. The fuel bowls have many patent pending numbers the most distinguishable being 2,268,490. The other has 3,572,387 on a raised pad.The accelerator pump covers are rectangular. One is plain. The other has a circular raised portion with the number 34R-2178B cast into it.There is a single digit "9" below that. The fuel bowl also has E3 stamped on the bottom, with a 1/2" high number "5" in black ink.
Both have12R 3632B cast on the base plate. One is stamped 3900 3 on the bottom. The other has no stamped characters on the bottom of the base plate. Each has a stamping on the base plate. One has 4055 on the top side stamped directly in front of the accelerator pump arm. The other has 36323 in that same spot.
Both have 117 on the butterflies.
Does anyone know if these parts can be used interchangeably. Or must certain combinations be maintained?- Top
