    1959 Hood Support Bolts...Judging question?

I took out the hood support off my 59 I am restoring to clean it up and send the bolts off to plating. Was comparing this original to a reproduction unit on another car I have and noticed the bolts are different. Checked the NCRS JM and it states the fender lip bolts should be phillips or clutch head cad plated. These are E marked hex head bolts like the ones on the female hood catches on the car but I can tell they are original and have not been changed by the imprint that is left from the washer on the paint and the bolt on the washer.

My question is has anyone else run into this and how much will you get docked if I leave them on there? I really don't want repros as I am using all the original bolts I can off the car. I want to leave the car with as many original parts as possible since it has all the documentation with it.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions on this.

Look if you feel they are the original's for get the JM and take the hit as I've done on Corvettes in the past and on my 55, that's why NCRS comes out with new JM every so many years. That's if you wont to play the JM game, just change them but keep the old bolts. I think that is the best advice for anyone asking these kind of questions.!!
My 2 cents but what do I know????

There is an old adage that goes like this :

"When the wise old rooster crows,
      the smart young rooster listens."

I agree with Roy on this one Mark

Yea, sometimes it is a tough decision on some of these things especially with a car that is this good as weather to leave it the way it came or to correct it to match the JM. There are some things that will not get changed now or in the future though no matter what you find. I noticed the other day that carb spring on base 283/230 is stated as being lime green in the JM but it is listed in repro catalogs as later years in lime green (61 or 62) and for 59 to be black as is mine on the car. My car also had screws in the rear of the top fender spears and the last pin is non existent and I just recently found out this was original on the very last of the 59 cars (only 500 or so had this) so it is really cool to find out some of this stuff. I knew it looked original because the underside of the molding had not been altered but I wanted to make sure.
