    C3 Tire Question

Can give me guidance on tire dating?. I have a Goodyear Speedway white line tire with markings as follows: LR01598 and 223991-2. I understand that dating is indicated somewhere in these characters. Anyone?

Is there a - in that number string, or are you indicating a number you can not read? I have never seen a dash in the tire serial number string.

If neither of those is preceded by "DOT", it would appear to be pre-1968. If either DOES have "DOT", they're not the final standard format, which would place the tire prior to May, 1971. In any case, you certainly don't want to drive on it.

        Hello Dan,
Is the tire mounted on a rally wheel? What are the wheel date code?
What year Coevette do you have?

Think I got it, guys. It seems L=1968, R=January 0=G'year, 1=Akron and the rest is coding/sizing info for the tire. This info tells me that it's too old for my '72. I was considering it for a spare only, and it is currently without a rim. Thanks again.
