Re: Your feelings on Corvette registries?

I found one of my previously owned Corvettes on a registry.
The problem was that the car had the same vin as my car but was not the one I owned. I had unquestionable documentation and a frame stamp. The current owner was informed. The end..
    Figure that out.

I listed my car in the C2 registry over a year ago and have had no problems. You can submit only the information you're comfortable with. The VIN is required. My philosophy is I'm a temporary caretaker of the car to preserve it for a future enthusiast and it is nice to have a registry to record past ownership. Also it is a piece of American history/art and I feel some obligation of sharing information with other interested people. Putting the basics in the registry seemed to be a simple way.
Will it curtail dishonest use of someone using a bogus VIN on a stolen/counterfeit car? Who knows. I like to think it might.

I have my 1963 on the C2 Registry. I don't have my EMAIL address posted however. I feel safe otherwise. I wouldn't pay to have my C5 on a registry.

I think the 70 Registry is one of the best. Juliet worked very hard on starting and maintaining it. I found good information and photos on it that even applied to my 71. It doesn't seem to be as active as it was a few years ago... I wish it was.

And there's the rub- there's always a 'new' registry being started by somebody thats full of time and ambition. For a variety or reasons, the devotion fades after a few years and the registry disappears.

In general, I find no problems with them.

Remember one many years ago that was printed in a book form by Jim Prather the editor of Vette Vues Magazine. It was published in 1979 and cost $9.95 . It covered 1953's thru 1978's.
Was titled "Vette Register". I have issue#1 and never saw another addition.

There was an Issue number 2. I don't know if there are any more, but I have #1 and #2.

The 67 survey that I took part in, that was sent to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in the late 70's obviously isn't finished yet either.

belong to several of the C2 online registries - as many have noted - you can post as much info as you like - also have provided info to Bob Jones for his 1963 Z06 survey / registry - Bob updates this usually several times a year or as often as "new" cars are found - he currently has a "brand new survery"

Thats the one I was thinking of, Sorry I had the state wrong. Never got any information either, but did get a request to buy my car. Imagine that.

One would think that after the sale of "The Last 1967" that survey would be finished and released. I think that the seller was also the collector of the 67 information.

                            What's the purpose?
Undocumented info just shows up on these sights.
The first pad I saw posted from a registry was totally bogus.
If a viewer accepts this postings as typical factory production and a source to restore their car, they will be more than disapointed when the car is judged.
Again, what purpose do they, or, should they serve?

You do always have the potential of "garbage in...garbage out" for any type of registry and need to have a knowledgeable and highly motivated "gatekeeper" in place.

As several folks have alluded to- it ain't easy to start and/or keep any quality club or registry going. You have to have a whole bunch of people willing to spend a whole bunch of time if it's going to be worthwile. Thank goodness the NCRS has been blessed with more than it's share of generous people for 34+ years.

Dad and I likely spend more time than most paying attention to the MANY Corvette magaznies and organizations that have faded away over the years. There have been a bunch.
