The attached picture was taken by me at Dover Drag Strip in Wingdale N.Y. around 1960.
Do any of you East Coast guys remember the car?
I have many of these pictures in slide form and bought the scanner John Hinckley recommended but it works very very slow using my 3 year old computer. I had to return it.
Any other recommendations on equipment to scan slides and negatives?

Bruce,

Sounds like your computer is the issue not the scanning device. But old school method, you can project the slides backwards onto a piece of ground glass keep the image small then shoot them with a camera on a tri pod from the front side.

Bruce, I should have updated my experience with that $99.99 slide scanner from Hammacher-Schlemmer. Mine developed poor focus, very poor color rendition, and generally unsatisfactory results, and I sent mine back too. After doing more research on available slide scanners, it appears that anything under $500.00 is essentially junk; I'm going to send my slides to www.scancafe.com and let them do them professionally for 27 cents each.

My Can-o-scan from Cannon has been great for home use. IIRC, it's cost was about $70.00 approximately 6 years ago. It does slides, film and up to 11x17 papers. Check your local friendly Best Buy or other computer stores for the later model scanners under $100.

Hi Bruce,
I have a high end Epson that is fantastic...but they build good ones in a wide price range that scan slides, negs, photos, keys, etc.......anything that will fit on the scan bed.

Build a light box and use a digital camera. IE a piece of frosted glass, a box and a light bulb. I also have had good luck just holding a slide up to a light and using a digital camera. Same applies to prints, after all a scanner is just a camera.

Dick,
I love the drag racing and road race Corvettes from days of old.
The Special Collection that Bill Locke put together at Bloomington in 2007 was just unbelieveable featuring lots of 57 race cars.
I guess in the 1960s, 54 Corvettes were not worth to much.
I have some more drag Corvette pictures I hope to post tomorrow.
