    tank sticker preservation

After 14 years of owning my 67 BB I dicovered the tank sticker mixed in with all of the documentation. I never knew I had it. It was in between two pieces of clear plastic sheets. Does anyone know of a good way to protect and preserve this?

Make a good scan, then place it between acid free matting material and keep it in your safe, light is damaging.

Clearly the paper used by General Motors for these applications would not be the acid free vellum that has allowed the odd Gutenberg Bible to last over 500 years in perfect shape. The key is little (if any) light, low moisture, and cool temperatures. Document preservation people will recommend archival plastic sheets or polyester folders to store your document in.

For me, I still have my tank sticker on my 67 BB. Everyone says thats where it belongs, but you don't have that option now so preserve it as noted above (and maybe someday I'll do the same with mine).

Get a catalog or look at the web site of Light Impressions. They have all the proper archive-correct materials to help preserve your tank sheet. You should know that in the bigger scheme of things it will eventually deteriorate to the point it is not readable -- thus the reason Mark recommends scanning it. The electrons will last almost forever, but you will have to upgrade the storage medium as technology advances -- now where did I put those 5 1/4-inch floppies?
