    1966 A/C small block

looking for the correct wiring for the resistor on the A/C per the wiring diagrams 1964-1967 it should go like this: dark blue, light blue, black yellow.....now, if one is is positioned leaning over the passenger side fender, I assume the dark blue is on the left, light blue is in the middle &
the black/ yellow is on the right...can anyone confirm?....Jack Humprey are U out there??

    Bob,

I have a '64 air car and the dark blue is on the right with light blue in the middle and black/yellow on the left. "Bubba" had messed with a lot of my a/c components before I bought the car so it may have been reversed. I looked at the wiring diagram in my AIM and it would appear to support your thoughts. Maybe I have to do some re-wiring.

      Curtis

      Mine WAS wired as follows:

yellow on the left, dark blue in the middle and light blue on the right (given I'm leaning over the passenger side fender).....when wired in that configuration it seemed to have an effect on the fan's med. speed,
meaning there was little difference between low & med. speeds on the fan.....after rewire there is now a distinct difference between the two....Bob

          Bob,

I too have a distinct difference in my low, medium and high speed. Is it possible that my resistor was installed the wrong way? If I turn it 180 degrees, I would have dark blue on the left and black/yellow on the right.

            Craig,

A picture is worth a thousand words. It looks like my resistor was installed incorrectly. It doesn't seem to have affected it's performance, but it is installed backwards, meaning I need to rotate it.

            Thanks

the opening of the can of worms....here's a pic of mine at this point (with plastic plug removed)........looking at the other pic it seems that it would depend on which way is the correct "up" position of the relay!...you may be right...if going by the 1964-1967 A/C Diagram the mid pin may be down meaning facing towards the fender which would have the d/bl...on the left, b/y on the right (towards the front of car)...my resister's mid. pin is "up" meaning closest to the engine which means mine should be b/y on the left & d/bl on the right.....or does it even matter as long as the l/bl is in the middle?....we need an expert on the elect. thing........

Bob -- I'm no expert but I've spent a few minutes checking the wiring diagram for '65 C60 cars, and compared my original resistor (in pic) with a GM replacement #3929048 (listed in the Jan '70 P&A30B catalog as applicable to '65-68 w/C.A.C.). The partially attached harness in the pic is a repro, but wiring color codes are the same as on my original (still on car). Checked, and it doesn't matter (except for judging , what direction resistor is installed. AIM indicates middle 16 gauge connection (black/light blue) outboard, solid darker blue (heavier 14 gauge) outboard, firewall side, and black/yellow 16 GA outboard towards the front.

Since the resistor coils are identica from 16B/LBL to 14DBL, and from 16B/LBL to 14DBL, it really doesn't matter which of the two inboard terminals the 14DBL is connected to.

Thanks Wayne, mine is now wired as yours in the pic!.....FYI: my resistor is mounted as in your pic with the center post facing the engine. This is a early 66 # 1735 (Sept.65) so some things are left over 65....Bob
