    63-64 vs 65-66 Steel Wheel....

Can anybody post some pics of 63-64 steel wheels so we may compare to the pictured 65-66 wheel?

    Thanks

Jim -- this is a pic posted of 3 from some eBay auction. Could be '63 or '64 but the identifiers are: 3 bumps to hold dog-dish hubcaps; rim slopes from the rear down to the center, rather than stepped as in '65-66.

The conical slope is the major visual identifier, and is evident examining either from bead-to-bead (tire off) or from the backside. Also, the internal (air chamber stamping) will be 15 x 5_1/2 K (not JK as in '65-6) and a date (year, month) appropriate to '63-64.

Steel wheels, taken straight from the Judging Manual. According to the manual, 64 wheels "usually" have a hole drilled in the spider area. Probably only occurs on later cars. Probably if a survey of 64 owners were taken, it would reveal that no such hole appeared in early wheels. The JM says that there are 2 "ridges" to prevent wheel cover rotation, but I only find 2 "dimples", one on either side of the valve stem. These wheels shown are December 63 wheels

I've posted this before but it highlights the features of a 63/4 wheel.

Tracy, That's my favorite pic of the 63-34 wheel. I have been handing it out to my Corvette friends in hopes of stealing some cheap. Thanks, JD

Glad you like it John. I put it together because I was sick and tired of seeing buyers paying big bucks for incorrect wheels on eBay. Credit should go to Mikie #14 as he told me what I needed to know to find a set for my own car.

Knowledge is power, but intrestestly enough, the prices for 63/4 wheels have doubled now that bidders know they are buying the correct wheels.

Good Luck on your search for a cheap set...

Tracy, I don't need any wheels for sure. But always watching out for the real deal cause that's what we do.
Also I am not much of an ebay player anymore since too rich for my blood. Thanks again, John D.
