    55 Heater part #

55 heater motor part. Any one have a part # and maybe a source for the broken bearing clip in this picture?

    Thanks.

There are people out there that could rebuild it or find any 50's Chevy heater motor 6v or 12v and use those parts from one. I don't think you can just buy that part!

Well not much help out there so like most of us I did it myself. In the interest to help others here is the solution. I checked around and found a regular bearing that might work. I found one that fit the case and was not too thick but the inner was too large for the shaft. I had the bronze
bushing on the shaft turned down to fit.
      Stock.

      Turned down.

      Bearing on shaft.

In housing and the NAPA number for the bearing.

This design was prrobably used for some time so if you have the same problem there is a solution.

So are you saying you found a way to not use the bearing clip by adding a different bearing and cuting down the shaft to make it fit. Cany any heater motor Chevy be taken aprt to get what you need from the 50's. Thanks

Well, Tyler, that should be an elegant lifetime solution IMO...that's the biggest blower motor bearing I've ever seen; it looks like a wheel bearing.

Well done!!! If I were you, I would write this up as a Restorer article. This is the kind of stuff that we used to see in every issue of the Restorer.

In a word yes. I included pictures to allow you to judge for yourself. I am unfamiliar with anything else but based on mass production I assume GM did not create a special run of heater motors for the Corvette. I really did not care what the bearing was originally used for, my concern was would it work for me. There may be a bearing out there that would fit the shaft and the housing but you would still have to machine off the bronze bushing/bearing besides it was on the shelf. Once I get the car togeather I will do a write up for the restorer.

Well it should be all the same for C1's and I think cars of the 50's. But it's a guess ,I'm not into numbers concerning parts just designs other people know numbers.
