    The New Board

It makes me sad when I read some of the comments on some of the other Corvette sites about this Discussion Board.
This is a board that the NCRS membership can be very proud of. Yet many people who aren't members or once were members but are not presently, don't want anything to do with it. It seems like sometimes this is because they don't know us first hand but are basing their opinion on something they've heard. Others relate a "bad" experience they've had, or heard about, with someone from NCRS. Others might be very happy as a part of NCRS but are afraid to take the leap.
We seem to be much better at inviting new folks to join us in person than we are on the net. Can we make the tone of this board more friendly and inviting? I think we need to encourage all questions but ALSO encourage more people to answer a question or become part of a discussion. Sometimes I think an answer shuts off a discussion when there are still folks who would like to post a reply. I think that is because some of us who don't get it are afraid to say "I still don't get it". It's a DISCUSSION board; that's what we have to offer and that's why I come every day. There are so many levels of knowledge and those with so much ability to find information quickly that I think some people are intimidated to join in.
I would like us to be as carefull with people on this board as we are with that new member bringing his car to his first chapter meet.
If you read this far Thank You!
    Regards,
    Alan

Look at my post. We need a general discussion forum. The Corvette Forum has done well with the this. At Christmas they have a give away thread. People give people extra parts they have for free. A lot of NCRS members also go on that site to just talk Corvettes. This would help change dry nut& bolts talk here. Some people think only people with a 99% NCRS correct car should join NCRS. I think there is room for all people that like Corvettes. I didn't join NCRS earler because 63-67 Corvettes were not judged.

Hmmm...That's interesting; when the NTDB first started up Saturday morning, each poster had a "Rep" rating, and every reader had a very large "hammer" that could be used to enhance or detract from a poster's "Rep" based on what they thought of a post, and the usefulness of a thread could also be rated.

I don't mean to be talking out of school here, but it appears our IT team has turned those features off. Clearly, among friends, there is all kinds of potential to make enemies out of friends with those features, and that may the reason they were turned off. Any poster (or reader too, I guess) still has the freedom to report a post that you believe violates the board's rules for civility...see the triangle in the corner of your post.

As for CF, I saw a thread start about us in C6 General; it seemed neutral enough, but I have spent more time here than there lately, and haven't followed it. You have to remember that some people's Mamas didn't teach them if you can't say something good, then don't say anything. There is a certain amount of jealousy, and Us vs Them in that kind of criticism. It's just human nature to always look for the smallest common denominator of commonality with everyone, until finally, it's just YOU against the world.

Some of those guys are old enough to know better; the thing that worries me about people that make conclusions based on hearsay from others, rumors, or "exclusion" jealousy because they want to pay the dues is (1) they probably have children they are teaching the same values, and (2) they CAN vote.
