What is the correct finish for the 4 center bolts that hold the rear spring (and the related plate) up to the rear end for a 71?

Give your NOS bolts the "sunlight test" and confirm, Patrick...I may have been inexperienced enough to see black phosphate in every fastener when I wrote those notes.- Top

The condition on mine was such that I thought "black oxide", but it certainly could have been phosphate as Chuck suggests. There's not much of that bolt that's not out in the elements. Maryland was still using a combination of salt and sand on the roads back then. The dog legs looked like they had been sandblasted every spring.

The original bolts were black phosphate-finished. The "black" varies from almost black to a medium gray on most black phosphate-finished parts. Black oxide is a completely different finish----much "blacker" and smoother. It was never used for these bolts.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
