    Locating Registered Vehicles

A while back (a year or so ago) I used a link to a web site that allowed you to check to see if a vehicle was registered. This search was by state. You put in the state and the VIN number and it returned a yes or no to being registered. It did not give any further info. I used it to check the first 32 VINs for 58 Corvettes in Florida. 3 came up as registered.

I have lost the link to the web site. If this rings a bell with anyone, please point me to the web site. Thanks.

Nope, that is not it. This site was not specific to any vehicle type. It did not matter what type of vehicle was input. All you had to do was put in the state and the vin number. It would then return a yes or no if that vehicle was registered in that state.

There are a few sites that will do this for a fee. Was this a free service that you had used?

Let us know when you find the site. With privacy laws it is getting harder and harder to get information that used to be public access.

            Found this site today:

            GovtRegistry.com

but it looks like a fee is needed.

I typed in a few errorous' VIN's and it said it had infp on them. I wonder if this is for real!

Unless you are in law enforcement I don't think you can get that information. I know some states will give past registrations for a fee.

I found it. It is a Florida only website.

I have a '70 350/350 engine laying around and put the VIN into the Florida search engine. Low and behold, the car was registered in Florida up until 2002. I've printed out the information to obtain the titles; however, Florida lists a handful of exemptions in order to obtain the information. The exemptions include insurance companies and other governmental bodies. I did not find an exemption for someone trying to mate an original engine with the original car. lol. I wonder how strict Florida on this privacy issue? Any thought?

Pretty strict now. I tried a few years ago and got nothing. However, some people have had good luck. Try it and see what happens.

On newer Vettes try searching emissions results.

For newer years I have had luck using state emission test result pages. I know CA and AZ both have them. Here is a link to AZs
