Re: 1969 Corvette 1108351 starter
Scott------
The GM #1108351 starter was used for 1968-69 with L-88 or ZL-1. The starter pictured is a correctly configured 1108351 which did use an aluminum. "shot bolt-long bolt" starter nose. This starter is designed for use with a 12-3/4" flywheel which all L-88/ZL-1 used EXCEPT those 1969 which were equipped with THM-400. Those applications used the 1108400.
The 1108351 was a high torque starter like the 1108400 except that it used the aluminum nose for 12-3/4" flywheel.
The only "exception" I would note with the starter pictured is I would expect that the solenoid would be painted black on original units. However, it may be that they were used both ways.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thanks, Joe! I was wondering just how rare this is so I guess it is awfully rare unless it was used on some other Chevrolet applications like Chevelles. There is a combined Corvette 118 L88s and ZL-1s built.- Top

Re: 1969 Corvette 1108351 starter
The only application I can find for the 1108351 is 1968-69 L-88/ZL-1 Corvette with manual transmission. I suppose it's possible that they were used for 1969 ZL-1 Camaro, though. The 1108351 was discontinued from SERVICE in November, 1970 and replaced by the GM #1108381.
As to whether, or not, the starter in the eBay item is an ORIGINAL 1108351, who knows? It may be a "reproduction". However, as I mentioned, it appears to be CONFIGURED as an 1108351 should be.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1969 Corvette 1108351 starter
I don't know enough about them to comment on that. The only thing I know about my own starter on my '70 LS-5 is that it is the correct part number and dated correctly. And it still doesn't start consistently although it's a fresh rebuild. I'm told that it could be the spring in the solenoid is too long and perhaps a shorter spring would help. And I still haven't installed the ground cable.- Top

The 1114356 is the solenoid. That's a correct part number for the solenoid for the starter in question. The starter is stamped 1118351. Whether it's an original stamping is another question. It appears to me that it could be original. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
