Re: Trailing arm shim question - Terry

I've got some larger cotter pins hanging around the garage -- they came to school with a bunch of other more useful parts. No one wanted these things -- they must be for a 1/4 or 5/16 inch hole and are about five inches long. Let me know what meet you are going to be at this year -- maybe Waco -- and I'll bring some along if the airline doesn't charge me extra for the weight in my baggage. They make good paperweights and great conversation starters.

I know the shims are not supposed to move with the trailing arm -- especially if they are properly torqued -- but they sometimes do -- I have seen it.

The original cotter pins used in PRODUCTION are still available to this day in SERVICE from GM. They're GM #217966 and they GM list for $4.25/each. They are 3/16" X 4-1/2".

By the way, my late-build 1969 has the cotter pin holes in the frame, although no cotter pins were originally installed.

Joe -- we never did try to track when the holes in the frame started. That would be a worthwhile task for someone.
