    1965 parking lights...wire config & color

Pic has two service replacement lights and one known original. Notice the original has an external green ground wire, and then the BL and PPL in the moulded rubber sheath. The replacements have all three wires Wht, BL, and PPL all within the rubber. What's up....? In all my prior research I have yet to see another with the external ground...hmmmm Need psychological support... anybody?

Very interesting. I brought up this subject right here on this board about two years ago but never got any response. I've seen quite a few of these over the years, although most have a white external wire, not green.
If I remember correctly, this strange external wire style lamp first appeared in (late?) 64, or maybe early 65, and continued off and on through early 66.
    It's the real deal!

I could offer the OPINION that this was an early style parking light that was soon to be found troublesome because the ground lead connection was exposed to the road elements, salt etc. (One winter in Minnesota and that wire was gone.)It was replaced by the jacketed wire style. How did they show up on later models? GM was not a strict FIFO manufacturer so when inventories got low they reverted to the troublesome light to get the vehicle out the door.

MY 67 definitely sports the improved (jacketed) design and they are original.

                Makes sense....

Wayne...These pieces are so readily replaced that there is little wonder why we don't see many of them. Wish I had two! One side was replaced along the way....or...the line was supplied from left and right bins explaining the mismatch.. As I mentioned to Michael....the application is a July built 65.

                Thanks for the feedback!

                    Steve,

I don't think that's possible because the housing itself isn't the early style. The 1st design (and most of 63) housing didn't have the boss that covered the threaded portion of the lens screw. The screw went through the housing and were visible from the back side.

I wondered about our June built car as it has both front parking lamps with external ground wires. Remembered reading it in Noland's book (on page 266), so many examples are out there.

                            Dan,

Is the external wire white or green?
