Restoring a 69 L89 with F41 for judging next year. Need advice on best supplier for replacement red line tires that will not cost me mega points. Plan to drive the car 3000 miles or less a year. Would you buy two different sets of tires, one for judging and one for "aggressive driving"?? Thanks, in advance.

Re: 1969 correct tires
I'm cheap so I would get one good set of repro OEM brand and size tires that are close to the original design.(Coker) 10%- 20% deduction w/ correct wheel size.Drive around with these.
I would then find and buy an ORIGINAL spare tire and wheel, dated for your build date.Doesn't have to match your driving tires. This is the tire and wheel that gets the close judging.- Top

Re: 1969 correct tires
From what I've heard, the closest reproduction tires available for judging points for '69s are F70x15 from Kelsey Tire http://kelseytire.com/
You'll have to research the archives for driving tires.

Re: 1969 correct tires
I purchased the Kelsey Redlines last year for my '68 judging and didn't lose a point. The ride is different with the tire's flat spots having to round out and drifting but that's the way it was in '68 with tires. Tire technology has certainly advanced to a more enjoyable ride with radials. I'm not sure if I can justify 2 sets of tires (drivers and judging) however. I'm still in search of the '68 air for the tires. Maybe that would make the flat spots go away faster?Terry Buchanan

Re: 1969 correct tires
We can help you with the NOS 1968 air for your tires! There are quite a few glaciers here in Colorado that are accessible with 4WD. You dig down into the ice the correct distance and harvest the air bubbles that've been trapped there since the 50's and 60's era.
You know you've got the real McCoy item when analysis with a gas chromatigraph reveals the presence of 2-3 parts per million of the insecticide DDT. Yep, this stuff isn't easy to come by, but it's still out there for the serious restorer...- Top
