Yea, I know that I should probably secure a new harness, but thats a 150.00 + and with this TI system and the smog system it has been a strain on me both physically and financially. But it is the last of major items mechanically to restore on the car before paint!
And should put this car back as from factory, with a few minor interior details to fix.
But I will take your advise under serious consideration!
And I missed the link you posted but will check on that.
Thanks again, you guys are great.

Well I pulled the trigger on your advise! Just got off the phone with M&H,
bought the new harness and couple other related products. Only to insure that nothing with the new box or distributor SMOKE"S.
It is good advise and then no one can say this failed or that failed.
plus I will have a one year warrenty on the TI system.
My wife finds out and I will be talking a lot higher!!!
        But thanks again to all.

You should keep & repair the original harness. It is superior to any reproduction.

I'm sure GM did an outstanding job on building anything.
But I believe, that wire 40 years old tends to break down after time, heat, use, ect..
I still own the harness and could do that.
Thanks for the input, I will keep it in mind.

i am going to retape and reuse my original. that ground wire went from the top bolt on the amp to the core support and then to the harness. it was one single black wire with 2 connectors on it. i can send you a pic if you send me an email. i took a pic of the harness off the car

I'm curious re length of ground wire, post Jan'68

I would think it has to be really long (at least the length of main TI harness from negative post on coil, to way past the plug into the pigtail harness, to reach the case bolt on the pulse amp.

This pic is of a pre-Jan'68 harness that I bought back in early '80s. At that time, it was the only one available to service '64-67 "5005" amps. The black ground wire near the plug attaches on one of the amp bolts, then the other black branch goes to metal ground on rad support.

If used on '64-67, the extra length (107" vs. 88 to 93.5") will have to be accomodated where mostly hidden, near the amp, I suppose.

the ground wire on that one pictured is much shorter than the original on my car. my ground wire is 3 or 4 times that long.
