C2 Idler Arm pn for non PS

On my Mar64 the idler arm has the following casting number on it 338 GMT 3779185 A
that's original in a non PS car. The JG only calls for a 3779185, a short number.

Have a second one which looks the same, but number 325 GMT 3779185 B which the JG lists a PS idler arm.

Now the AIM has nothing and my P&A (72) has only one listed as casting 3779185.
SOoo is the "B" usable in my car?

I think so. I don't think that the idler arms were any different for power steering and non-power steering applications. Plus, in SERVICE only one idler arm was ever available. If a specific idler arm were needed for power steering versus non-power steering, then 2 different arms would have been needed in SERVICE.

GM #3779184 is the PART number for the Corvette-only idler arm. The shaft of this arm carried the FORGING number 3779185. I have seen these arms with no alpha character suffix and those with "A" and "B" suffixes. I don't know what the suffixes denote.

I suspect (but I don't know) the reason that the judging guide only calls out the 3779185 forging number is that's the only part of the number that may be judged. In other words, suffixes or other numbers don't matter.

By the way, the "GMT" refers to the GM Tonawanda forging plant where these arms were manufactured. Also, there is at least one other idler arm assembly that uses the 3779185 shaft. That one is for some 1963 Chevrolet trucks. However, its bracket section is different and it won't mount on a Corvette frame.

Funny you'd ask that question today. I was just wondering the same thing as I discovered last weekend my early 64 has the same GMT 3779185B on it. Its also a non-power steering car. I figured this was just another 63-64 JG annomaly. I was hoping this would be addressed in the new guide which I understand is leaving the binding co. this week and first wave will be in the mail next week.
