What is the correct bellhousing for a 66 Corvette with 427-390 engine?

should be a 3899621 but iv'e heard that a few really early cars may have come with the earlier 3872444 the 621 was used for years after as well

All 1966 Corvettes with big block used the GM #3872444. In fact, it was used into early 1967. By the way, this is one of the most difficult of all Corvette bellhousings to find. It was used for other Chevrolet vehicles with 14" flywheel, but only for the 1966 model year. As far as Corvette goes, the 3872444 and 3899621 are functionally equivalent and can be used interchangeably.
