    C2 jack

Since I was unwilling to pay $739 (the sale price on eBay) for a correctly dated jack for my '67, I bought a dated repro from LI Corvette. All the vendors caution about using the repro to actually jack the car, saying it's just for show (although LI's disclaimer is milder, saying it's not a 'modern' jack). The jack looks sturdy enough to me; are these disclaimers just legal CYA and are they okay to use if I have a flat? Thanks.

YES (legal CYA)! Today's jacks have to pass DOT tests that include side loading strain. The classic design of the jack doesn't 'get it'....

Hence, the jacks are marketed with a 'disclaimer' stating they're not for actual roadside emergency use as a 'get out' clause. Actually, they're as good as the real McCoy originals in construction, strength and durability even though that isn't saying a bunch...

Thank you, Jack. That's what I figured but wanted to draw on your experience.

            Hi Larry:

The repro jack I bought from Paragon a few years ago was a pretty good reproduction, but it contained an extra part that I don't think was on the originals. The repro had a piece of tubing over the threaded jack screw that would serve to limit how high (and unstable) the jack could go. I think this is some sort of safety/liability addition. It is easy to remove.
