    75 front exhaust heat shield

What is the part number for the front exhaust heat shield just in front of the converter? The AIM states it's part number 356953 but I read its only for an automatic transmission. I have a standard transmission. Is this part number for both standard and automatic transmission exhaust heat shiels installation? If not, what part number I'm I looking for?

    Thanks,
    Danny

      Peter and Daniel-----

GM #356951 was discontinued without supercession in November, 1983. So, I expect it will be very difficult to find an NOS example. If it's not reproduced, you'll probably need to look for a used example.

I've looked, and studied, a many 75-79 exhaust systems and to include heat shields. Yet, never detected the configuration difference between an M40 and M20/21 extension exhaust pipe shield in 75. By 78, the extension pipe and shield were the same, the heat shield being the 356953. However, in 75, two extension pipes were called out, thus requiring a different heat shield. I have numerous exhaust system photos but do not have a clear photo of that heat shield but many of its clamps and straps. I may have one of our 75 contributors to the TIMJG that has a very nice L82 M20 75 and see if he can get us a few photos. I suspect he still has the car. I do have the 356953 from my 78 that fell off I could shoot but its configuration may differ from the 75 356953. We'll see if others offer some help

            Hey Tom
Thanks for the reply I'm looking at the assembly bule print a little closer and the tile of the print is listed as Front exhaust pipe shield 1Ya00 All. It does give both part numbers 951 and 953 in the list, but only one picture showing one version of what it looks like. E bay has the one in the assembly manual when I google it, but can't find any pictures of 951 part so it would be great if you can locate a picture for me

Isn't this interesting...never really looked at the shield when it came off while driving. I've included front and back; more interesting is the P/N on the back side. YOu can see where one of the clips fell off. These U type clips, the strap clamp slips under to secure to the pipe. Just a stamped galvanized sheet of metal with two holes for rivets.
