    73 A-pillar paint

Some of the A pillar is visible between the interior trim and the weatherstrip. On my car this area is body color, but the car had been painted before by a prior owner, so it's not necessarily original-looking. Does anyone know if this area is supposed to be primer, blackout, or body color?

Also, is a certain amount of filler material supposed to be slopped on the pillar? My car had a lot of it, and I don't know if that was a Monday Car job or if there has been a later repair that got messy. I've cleaned it up a bit, but left some there.

I don't recall ever seeing body filler there. Also A pillar should be body color.

Thank you, Russ. Upon closer inspection it looks like there has been some collision repair in this area. The pillar weatherstrip has been moved outboard about an extra 5/8 inch, and the upper door hinge has 5 shims which looks excessive.

The zinc chromate primer used in this era on the windshield frames and T-top bar was the color you see, and quite close to the color of your car.
It wasn't the green that you think of for midyear cars.
