1964 new temp gauge ?

so my 64 had a temp gauge that read hotter than it was so I replaced it and now the new gauge pegs the needle down past the 100 degree mark with key on and when the sensor wire is grounded it reads 180 degrees-tried 2 new gauges that work the same and unfortunately threw out the old gauge-whats your thoughts on this all the other new gauges work as they should and dash lights all work as well.
