When I started my 1957 restoration I chose to reuse my original fasteners if they were decent and still functional. My car was 15 years old when I bought it so some of the fasteners were missing or broken or lost. To replace them with correct size and head-mark I went through the "Corvette Instruction Manual", (AIM), and listed all the fasteners' part numbers for each Sect. and sheet in an Excel file. Then on another Excel sheet I rearranged all the entries by part number. By looking at this second sheet I can see all the uses of a particular part number so if I didn't know what kind of bolt (PN 120854) was that was used to fasten the Hood support asm. I can quickly see that it was a 1/4-20x1/2 inch hex head with either 'TR' or an 'L' head marking. The following list is all the places PN 120854 is used in a 1957 Corvette:
Sect. Sheet Usage
8 1 Exhaust insulator
10 1 Spare tire hold down
11 2 Splash shield
11 3 Front bumper inboard
11 5 Hood support asm.
12 8 Brake switch
13 2 Shroud to frame
13 3 Rad. support to radiator bottom
102 4 Ground strap to exhaust.
This was very helpful to me in my restoration and I am offering it to help any one who can use it. The file lists all the uses of a particular fastener, but not necessarily a description.
