1988 zr-1

My 1988 KoH (summer 1987 build) is being prepared for restoration. With that being said, I am looking for a rectangular cover that is placed just forward of the shifter. My thoughts are, it was a component from another GM vehicle of the same vintage.

Does the cover look familiar to anyone here? I will fabricate a cover if it comes to that but would hope that someone recognizes the piece in the pic. I can find a pushbutton and already have a valet key cylinder.
