1967 L36 4160-3811 Fuel Dripping Off Secondary Diaphragm Lever and Assembly Screw

Just replaced all secondary fuel bowl and metering body gaskets on my Holley 4160/3811 and now have fuel dripping off the secondary diaphragm lever and screw. All the replacement gasket holes lined up. Any ideas on the cause of the new leaks? Thank you

    David,

It sounds like fuel is running out the throttle shaft and this can be caused by a poor gasket seal because of slightly warped surfaces between the secondary metering plate and main body sandwich.

That sounds correct. The secondary metering plate appeared to be slightly warped, but the absence of its inclusion in the rebuild kit and the fact that it is sandwiched between two gaskets I incorrectly concluded it would flatten once torqued down. Thanks Timothy!

        David,
Look up the number for the Holley metering plate and replace it. The number for the 3810 Holley carb metering plate is #22 but double check your 3811 carburetor.

You can also mill off the location pins and broach the plate but I would replace it and start over. Don't over torque the screws holding it to the carburetor as that will distort it also.

The plate has been ordered, but thanks for the advice on over torquing the goofy "Holley" screws. That's exactly what I was planning on doing!
          Thanks Timothy.
