    '70 5-port windshield washer pump

A hairline crack has developed in the plastic pump-shaft, which houses the piston. I am wondering if anyone has any experience that could be shared as to how the crack might be repaired. Thanks!

Personally I would install a new one. The 55 year old plastic has suffered countless heat cycles and will fail again.

If you want to repair it and don't think super glue is sufficient, I recommend Tech Bond:
https://techbondus.com . Along with the kit also get a bottle of filler.

Great stuff. I repaired a badly damaged front console frame with this stuff. It welds and the filler also builds material for strength.

I haven't tried it but a hack on YT I saw was to mix super glue (bonding agent) with baking soda (filler). A less expensive possibility if you don't mind experimenting.

Mark - thanks for the lead. I have spoken with the CEO at Tech-Bond, who feels with a high degree of certainty that his product will repair the crack, if the superglue that was used by me (and by a third party some 15 years ago) can first be degraded and cleaned out. That will requiring heating the "plastic" part to approximately 350°F for 10-15 minutes. Of course, I don't want the part to melt/become disfigured in the process. Does anyone in this community know with certainty what type of polymer material would have been used to manufacture the "plastic" parts of the windshield washer pump? Thanks!

What do you think about this?

Just a bit more $ than repairing with Tech Bond and probably a longer lasting fix.

The down side is that the plastic is bright white, and EVERYONE can see that you've replaced it.
