74 Seat Belt Receiver - Black - GM #344458

Hi All -

Trying to pick up a couple of black seat belt wired buckle receivers for my 74 as the wiring inside my two receivers are shot. I'm trying to get the original seat belt warning system installed and working back into my car. I have the correct harness, relay, alarm and interlock - just need correct receivers.

So.... is #344458 the correct number?? - I cannot find it in the AIM (as I think it was originally installed as a complete system (retractor, belt and receiver). I also cannot find this part number in my GM dealers parts book.

Is that the correct receiver part number for a 74 coup, convertible or for both???

You can't replace the wiring in your current receivers?

Just wondering, based on the appearance of the alleged NOS ones on ebay. I would think that you could slide out the buckle and webbing, and give it a try. However, I have no idea how the wiring is installed in the actual buckle.

Thanks - will try and re-wire if I cannot find new ones. At this point just trying to verify if the part number listed in my original post is correct and the same for a convertible or coupe.

You are correct; in PRODUCTION the seat belts were supplied as an assembly of both buckle end, latch end, and shoulder harness.

For 1974 and for the first time, the buckle and latch ends were available separately in SERVICE. I believe the buckle (receiver) end is the same for both coupe and convertible for 1974. GM number 344458 is the correct buckle end for black colored belts.

GM number 344458 was discontinued without supercession in July, 1994.
