Windshield wipers not stopping

I have a "62". I am having a problem with getting the wipers to stop after using them. With the wiper knob turned all the way to the left to shut them off, they keep running. The only way I can get them to park is to pull off the road and open the hood an pull the white plastic slide back just a little to finish it's travel, then the wipers stop. Is this a cable adjustment or a component replacement or some other secret adjustment that I am not aware of. Any help would be welcomed before I start taking things apart and break some thing.

The ST12 Service Manual outlines the adjustment procedure of the internal switch contacts to correct that condition.

The internal switch may be misadjusted.
