Notice: The rate code (GNR26) for the Hyatt Place - Melbourne Airport isn't working yet. Lynne is working on getting this corrected. We'll post an update once the problem has been resolved. If you don't want to wait for the online reservation site to be corrected, you can call the hotel directly.

                  Hi Larry,

Please allow me to answer your question about the new "Open Class" of NCRS. The new team leader, Roy Sinor and I gave much consideration to the name of this class. Yes, the current NCRS members who voted did choose Concours as the winner. Roy and I felt that this name was too polarizing within NCRS and definitely outside of NCRS. This class would be a fresh start with additional years added, outside of the NCRS flight judged years. Along with that we are adding some additional judging and awards. Later this year we will add PV test and Mark of Excellence awards for this class as well. Therefore we decided that a new name would be best. A fresh start for this class! Thanks to Arland Dower for suggesting the new name. I believe it is the perfect name for this new class.

                  Thanks, Joe

                    Joe,

I guess membership votes don't count for anything any more. So why even ask the membership for there inputs if you don't use it.
With additional changes your making to the 5 Star award program I believe it will negatively impact NCRS. I know a number of 5 Star judges will be leaving NCRS because of these changes, so much for mentoring other judges.

                    Mike

That "What should the name be" vote, was made BEFORE anyone knew what this new class was going to entail.

At Oklahoma's Fall Chapter meet this past weekend, Roy Sinor spoke about this new "Open" class. "Open Class" is a work in process that will require time to sort out. My impression was it will be a significant departure from our old Concours Class.

I think, while Concours was hoped to bring in many new members, it did not - it did however give current members another avenue for their other, non Flight, cars.

I expect, this new name was to give this different class a fresh start - a new effort to attract new members to NCRS.

Looking forward to Frisco and more information. Months back we planned to do a Concours judging after our November Chaper meeting - now we'll be "bleeding edge" on this new Open Class!

Let's cut these folks some slack as they work on this new class.

I don't know how we got so off topic. This is a Florida Regional update thread.

Since we have, let me answer Mike directly. Mike, sorry that every move I make offends you so much. My mission is to better the experience for ALL NCRS members. I know that decisions must be made and not everyone will always agree. I was asked to fix the Concours program, which was not working as intended. It was not really bringing in new members. It also was seen as a distraction to what we normally do. There was no team leader, so a team leader from any division who didn't have many cars at that particular meet was asked to "fill in". There was no direction at all. There was also the issue of the name. It has been a controversial item since the start. People in NCRS and people outside NCRS were confused by it. Often times comparing it to Pebble Beach Concours. "My car is not worthy of a Concours judging so why would I enter it?" was often the statement made.

I was not the person who initiated the NCRS poll about changing the Concours name. I would never have asked a group of members who's passion is restoring Corvettes to "Factory Original" what their opinion is about a modified or custom division. I would have polled Corvette owners outside of NCRS for this. People who want to better their car, but not always to factory original. These are the people we are trying to attract with this class of judging. Although our NCRS friends mostly voted to keep the name, how many of them participated in that division? Would they have voted on the name "Open Class" if that was one of the options? We will never know. Roy and I were bouncing names back and forth and none of them had hit home. We knew we wanted a change but there were no great ideas until I received a phone call one night from Arland Dower and he suggested the name. It hit the target and Roy felt so also. So that being said, a name change was crucial for a "Fresh Start" for this class. Adding Roy Sinor as a Team Leader is also a huge boost for this endeavor.

I hope this also answers everyone's questions about why the name change. If not, please start a new thread so Lynne's Florida Regional thread can stay on point.

                        Regards, Joe
