Wondering if there are any shops that might be able to restore this sending unit. Came out of a 69 tank and believe it is original and correct for my 69 L46 which has a repro in it now. Any referrals would be appreciated. This puppy is rough so my hopes are not high.

Sending Unit Restoration

Keith,
There has been much discussion about rebuilding C2 fuel sending units. I will tell you from experience, that it is in my mind expensive. I had Bob's Speedometers in Howell, Michigan rebuild/restore my sending unit for my '65 Corvette. It came back beautifully restored but the gauge reads lower than the fuel level that is actually in the tank. On a completely empty (dry) tank adding 10 to 12 gallons the gauge would read just shy of 1/2 full. I guess this isn't a bad thing since you will always have more in the tank than what the gauge reads as opposed to having less gas in the tank than what the gauge reads. I was hoping that it would have been closer to the actual amount. The cost with return shipping was $625.00. IF you decide to have them restore your sending unit, I would also specify that you do not want the sending unit plated. They re-plated (zinc) my sending unit and it does not look like the original tin dipped finish like it was originally. At one time, there was an advertisement in the Drive Line for sending unit rebuild services, but I haven't seen it lately. Bob's Speedometers can be reached at (810) 632-0400 and www.bobsspeedometer.com. I will also tell you they are very slow, so don't expect it to come back quickly.
Hope this helps.

James: I had a similar experience with a c2 sending unit . beautiful but not accurate. The OP is dealing with a c3 sending unit, which are more readily available, both nos and used. if I were the OP, I look for a better c3 sending unit than the rusty one his photos demonstrate. and btw, the c3 sending units function differently than a c2 unit. are less complicated and live longe than their c2 cousins. regards, mike👍 2- Top
