    1962 Speedometer r & r

The speedometer in my '62 needs to be serviced (very noisy and fluttering) and, after putting it off for several months, I am finally resigned to removing it. Just where do I begin and how to proceed? Does the whole gauge cluster need to come out?
I'm a small guy (small hands) and will remove the driver's seat for better access, does the steering column also need to be lowered? Any tips, advice and warnings very much appreciated.

    Ric,

Yes the cluster needs to be removed to service the speedometer.

    Your ST-12 has the procedure.
    Online version here...Section 1-6

Mark each lamp socket for reinstallation reference. Also note the black ground wire attached to one of the gauge mount studs.

Section 12 has some color codes...
