I see Corvette Central has 'Paragon' hood release handles in stock but I'd like to clean up my original. Two questions: First, can the handle be disassembled to clean it up? If so, how? Second, is the tubular sleeve part supposed to be permanently connected to its mating part by crimping or solder or weld? Mine has probably been loose for ever but in actual use has not been a problem. See Pictures. Frank Condron, Edna, Texas.

crimped originally. these hood release assemblies typically fail their PV because the plastic insert that prevents the handle from rotating has lost the ability to prevent handle rotation. once that happens, I know of no way to refurbish or replace the plastic insert. been too many years since I restored one and I can't remember if the handle can be removed from the shaft. mike- Top
